I have a standard VW Gamma Radio/Cassette in my 1999 Golf GTI and the volume knob seems to be a bit tempremental. When I try to turn up the volume, it often turns down the volume even though I'm turning the volume control clockwise... Assume a dodgy electrical connection. Has anyone else experienced this and is there an easy fix?

Cheers

time for an audio upgrade i reckon!!, the gamma units  are good,  i started having a few probs with mine so put a sony cd/mp3 unit in which matches the red/blue illumination of the car

i think its the actuall switch, as it does 3 functions (radio on/off, and then used for volume and settings etc up/down), it would be quite costly to get fixed unless you remove it and strip it and try and remove/desolder the switch and try and get a replacement to refit. and as mp3 player etc are well down on price now you really have to think about wether its worth messin about or upgrade  it......

Same thing in my '99 gti Dan, seems to be worse on cold mornings ? I try wiggling it or holding it up/down/left/right while turning it very slowly, probably makes no difference at all but makes me feel in control

edit: i've just re-read my post, and feel i need to clarify that i am talking about the VOLUME CONTROL on my gamma head unit, nothing else
