Word of caution to all.

Some of the silly lead times for the mk6 were due to online brokers selling cars when they had no allocation and no hope of getting any. Some people who ordered via brokers were wating 8 - 10 months.

Yes they may offer good discounts but do they actually have the cars to sell?

Maybe it will be different this time around.

I think if a discount of 8% is being offered you need to be insisting on a guaranteed delivery date....

I have bought from an online broker. They were clear in quoting me 12-14 wks delivery from the outset. Were they lying?

I have been told the order is placed at the factory. Is this another scam/lie?

You've got me worried now

If they have placed the order they should be able to give you the order number which you can plug in here to check the progress:
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/track-my-order

I cannot do this myself yet as I'm waiting for the paperwork to arrive from my dealer.  Though I suppose I could call and ask for the number now, just can't be bothered.

I thought the broker is just a middle man and passes your details to the dealer who then takes the business forward?!

As I've discussed here before (other thread) I've got an order number but the 'Track-My-Order' website doesn't recognise it. The dealer told me this is because I haven't been assigned a build week yet. Fishy or not? Maybe too early to tell.

That's correct. I'm now dealing direct with the VW dealer.

I wouldn't go by anything on the VW tracker site yet.  When I first got my order number, it appeared as "processing" for a few days, then it disappeared, then it came back again, and now it has disappeared again.  According to my dealer, the order has been processed and accepted by the factory, but is now being held in statis until week 22 to be changed to the MY14 spec.  Until that time, don't expect to hear much.

Thats right and the dealer will pay him something for the referral.

These guys who have ordered through brokers offering 7-10% discount I expect will have a huge mix of lead times.

We haven't actually even been given seperate allocation for GTi/GTD yet but have been able to place them under normal golf allocation. When we do know the amounts that will go through look out for some very disspointed customers......I have been openly upfront with everyone I have taken an order from and said expect 6 months from when I placed the order on sli.

Few will be lucky with brokers and get them quick but the vast majority wont even be able to place the order. Our fleet dept have taken so many orders for mk7 that they don't have allocation till June.....

If you are dealing with the VW dealer I don't think you have anything to worry about.  I'll let you know when I get my tracking number if it works.  At least one does as I'm sure I've seen someone post a screencap of it.

My dealer claims July, but now I wonder if they are just guessing as you seem to know what you're talking about!

However, I'm not that bothered if it takes longer.  They can iron out any production issues making ones for Europe, maybe we'll get 63 plates and every month that passes is a lot less loan I need to take out .

I don't think having a VW order number is any guarantee of getting one sharpish (June/July). If a Dealer has placed orders for 10 GTD/GTIs and they have all been accepted with an order number then I would expect that they will still come in the order they have been placed. If a large dealership was allowed 2 per month and they have 10 orders confirmed then i'd expect orders 9 and 10 to come 4 months after orders 1 and 2.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....
