Excellent price, I assume it's a 3 door?

Yep, as a GTI should be

It really is an amazing price. They must have a massive allocation of GTI's. I assume they are a very large dealership?

They are a large dealer group, I'm not naming as I am still deciding what to do and don't want to lose their last allocation or anything if I go ahead.

Get it ordered I'm in the know when it came to ordering my GTI and I got nowhere near that offer due to the lack of allocation. Granted im paying cash but even still...

Seems that they are willing to heavily discount the gti more than the GTD?

Possibly, but remember if you are trading in like in the above example then they may well give you a slightly better offer knowing they will recover that by paying a little less for the trade in than they otherwise would have.

Bottom line is these dealers know exactly how much money they need to get in to make the minimum profit they are willing to go for, so I think we've found the current discount limit at a little over 8%.

Word of caution to all.

Some of the silly lead times for the mk6 were due to online brokers selling cars when they had no allocation and no hope of getting any. Some people who ordered via brokers were wating 8 - 10 months.

Yes they may offer good discounts but do they actually have the cars to sell?

Maybe it will be different this time around.

I think if a discount of 8% is being offered you need to be insisting on a guaranteed delivery date....

Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

As Bill said. High discount on new car means nowt if you're trading in and getting a poor trade-in value - cost to change is key, as always. Without part-ex subsidising new car discount or vice versa, most dealerships would be looking to make 20% profit on your part-ex e.g. £15k given in part ex and it'll probably be up on their used forecourt for at least £18k. If the larger dealerships hit their upper sales targets they get a bigger profit margin on their new car sales as they'll get them cheaper from VW UK. In that situation they can offer a bigger discount without missing out on a reasonable profit margin.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

This is happened to companies selling purely online with the mk6 I guess?  Some options discussed here are looking at online comparisons that then lead to VW dealers who have the allocations.

GolfTi: I suppose it all depends on how much business any particular dealership has. If they haven't sold their allocated "one per month" in any given month then you may be able to get that allocated car at a reasonable discount without adversely affecting lead time. If on the other hand you have a dealership supplying one of these brokers that has an order in for 8 or 10 GTI/GTDs then there is going to be a wait.

I'd be interested to find out what will happen in my situation. I was the first to order a GTD at Pulman Sunderland. 2 days later I placed an order for another GTD on my dad's behalf and a lad I know from another forum placed a GTD order a day after that. When the salesman has been speaking to me, he has given me the impression that we'll all be getting ours late June/Early July, whereas I would expect us to be getting ours a month apart, with mine coming first. Will the "allocation" go out of the window if VW aren't currently as busy as they'd like to be and so have plenty of spare capacity for production?

Perhaps with a multi branch dealership like Pulman, if the Durham branch has sold none, maybe the Sunderland branch can grab Durham's allocation for that month etc.
