Big jump up to a GTI Bill, unless it was a Fiesta ST
Zetec S, there was no mk7 ST when I ordered it (Ford were living in the land of the plonker at the time).  So, GTI will almost double the power output!

Even so I love that car.

How long did your quotes from carbuzz take to start coming through and how many quotes were offered?

I think I got one the same day and one a couple of days later.  First time using carbuzz.  One thing is it asks you when you want the car and the options are quite broad.  So I think I put down 4-8 weeks, but this may have ruled me out from getting a lot more quotes.  I'm speculating here of course.  (EDIT: To be clear, I'm suggesting a longer lead time would be better as its unlikely anyone can supply a build to order GTI in 8 weeks!)

I can also imagine a lot of 18yo wannabes running up a GTI spec for fun, so it could be that many dealers just don't want to waste time if their experience is that people on carbuzz requesting GTIs typically are not serious.  Again, I'm speculating.  I know nothing really. :undecided: Then again, since I accepted one offer and ignored the other I don't know how they'd know the difference.

Thanks, yeah I had a quote from Listers within 6 minutes of sending the request. I've fired a few questions back to them.

Listers VW offered £2.5k off via carbuzz.  Said I'd pay in cash, but they made the offer before we'd discussed finance or not.

Its illegal to offer a different price for finance compared to cash although it does go on.

I know in the past folk that have bought on finance for the "preferred rate" and then paid in full with cash within the 14 days settlement period you have. There is no penalty for this!!

Always something to keep in mind

I ended up getting 10% discount off which is great in advance of the price rises form the 1st May.

The replies to your quote are filtered by Car Buzz so you will only get the best ones or those near you (typically 1-3)

If you call them a very helpful guy will give you more detail if you get impatient waiting to sign on the dotted line.

Ordered a Golf GTI DSG Performance Pack in Pure White with Keyless Entry, Dynaudio, Rear View Camera and Panoramic Roof.

Currently driving a Scirocco 170 GT in Night Blue with Bluetooth, Rear Parking Sensors, DAB and Dynaudio.

Last article I read on new car haggling suggested the same.  Sounds like good advice.  Let them think you are interested in finance but undecided and then pay in full after you got the best offer.

Hang on a minute, have I just done the Lister's salesperson's job for them?  Or were you already talking to them? haha!

Should call them back and ask for some more money off my order for recommending them?

I get the feeling Listers own that site.

Wow .. great thread ... very illuminating    I wasn't expecting these sorts of discount on a brand new Mk 7 GTI (especially after the spate of recent great reviews).  I can see the waiting list getting longer and longer
