Master/Gung-ho: You's 2 must have some desperate dealerships near you to be getting those kind of discounts on a car so new that it isn't even out yet. Great news on the discounts you have received.

Thanks monkeyhangar! Believe you me I never expected this level of discount on a car that isnt even out yet. I suppose it helps when you know the sales guy, having bought two VW's from him in the past. In fact he was brutally honest in saying that new car sales in March were sluggish to say the least.

I like to haggle hard like yourself but I'm not always so successful! Tried getting a discount off the new M135i but they were having none of it, even being a repeat customer of theirs for over 10 years!! Their basic excuse was that demand outstripped supply and they could sell there allocated cars at full list price Ten times over.... Probably a load of old bull!

So I suppose deals are out there but you just need to shop around.

Well all I can say is the I was their first order of the GTI, (28.03.13). I am paying cash, otherwise I would have gotten more. And I am absolutely certain I lost about £350 by not asking for more.

If anyone is interested I'd be more than happy to negotiate a deal for them at 'the other' dealership I was getting £1500 off. It's in London though.

Let me know ;)

Thanks all, some great responses.
Even with the fee Broadspeed come in at 6.3% reduction off of list and includes oe years tax.  They expect the lead time to be 14 weeks.

I just need to ear back form the dealer (Cheltenham)who offered 3% to see if the want to try and get close which is quite unlikely.

Cash order placed today with no trade in.
Best price was with Broadspeed, 8.3% discount, just shy of £2.5k
even taking the £199 fee into account.

I would like to point out a really great site called www.carbuzz.co.uk  which not only has reviews but doesn't have a free associated for finding new car quotes. I would highly recommend.
In the end the only reason I went with Broadspeed was the dealer I found on carbuzz didn't answer their phone at 5:45pm and Broadspeed price matched to secure the order today.

Good luck fellow hagglers!

That's Drive the Deal listed the GTI and GTD now, with a healthy 8.2% discount.  Ideal for those who are in a position to go the broker route (or handy for some more ammunition for haggling with your local dealer!)

Can't believe they are £50 cheaper, servers me right for not calling them!

CORRECTION- They only offer 6 months tax, another 6 months is £63 so I'm £13 up - PHEW I can sleep easy now!

Listers VW offered £2.5k off via carbuzz.  Said I'd pay in cash, but they made the offer before we'd discussed finance or not.

I also asked about a trade in of my Fiesta as I'm a bit nervous about being ripped off by webuyanycar.com and arranging a private sale to coincide with the as yet unknown GTI arrival sounds tricky.  Surprisingly they offered quite close to the webuyanycar website offer despite not having Fords on their forecourt.  I'm actually not certain I want to lose my Fiesta as its such a fantastic car so I agreed to discuss it closer to the delivery date with Listers while I try to convince my wife she wants to sell her Ka and move up to the Fiesta.  Then again, that will cost me more cash... but I do love the Fiesta, I was actually feeling sorry for it after placing the GTI order.  Just washed it and it was all sparkly looking

Big jump up to a GTI Bill, unless it was a Fiesta ST

You'll love it.
