Finally Result Abs/handbrake light All Sorted
« on: 14 April 2013, 16:37 »
As per the title was hoping after sorting the rear discs and pads and handbrake last week that the light would go out after releasing the handbrake erm nope  also the abs light fails to illuminate to is this going to be down to a fault on the abs system?

Yep handbrake light is linked to abs.

I thought when handbrake light stays on that a rear abs sensor is at fault. But I remember someone saying its the pump.  :undecided:

Re-fit ABS bulb.... this should come on on turning the ignition on... if not then bulb is broken or removed....

If all 4 sensors show in fault log then I would get suspicious.... before you remove them check they don't work with a mini DSO or if you don't have anything like it then use a LED test lamp

If you had one rear sensor out you swap the plug under the seat with the other side scan with vag com if the abs sensor didnt change to the other side the pump has gone i had to change my pump as it had a smashed abs bulb when i bought it if it turns out to be your pump i bought mine from stevens vw dismantler 35 pound and has been working for 7 months so far

Have you done a live test on them to see if they are showing what speed they read? Dont just replace them all if they all show a fault. My abs light was on a few weeks ago. Diagnostic showed rear sensor i unplugged it, replugged it and cleared the fault and it started to work fine. The abs light went off.

I believe that the light in question is also linked to the fluid level, check and make sure the plunger on the cap is not stuck down.
