When I had my two test drives (one for me and one for the missus), on both occasions the dealer had the key and was standing away from the car ie. not in it nor by the drivers door - and on both occasions the nav, radio etc worked - and this was on the DNS and the DNS Pro.
Was just thinking about this again, when i was sat in the demo at stoutbridge vw, the sales lady was leaning on the open drivers door with the key in her hand but i could still turn the nav unit on??

Guys, what was the condition before hand though?  Is this with the engine on or off?  You started with it on, then opened the door or what?

I'm not saying its not possible to turn the thing on when the engine is off or the door open or the key outside or whatever, only that if it is already on, and you open the door, it will turn off.  If I've turned it on and I don't want it to go off when I open the door and I don't see why it should.  If I turn off the ignition that is another matter, I can see why it would be good to make you restart the nav manually in this case otherwise it might run the battery down...

EDIT:

Both times the engine was off.  I do not know if the nav turns off when you turn the ignition off but I would assume so.  Then if you want it back on then you'd physically have to press the on button.

Yep, that is pretty clear.  You can turn if on if the ignition is off and it stays on for some period of time (30mins for Skoda).  If it is on and you pop the ignition off it goes off too, then comes back on when you next turn on the ignition.

What is not certain is why they would make it so with Keyless it goes off if the drivers door is opened (apparently regardless of if the ignition is turned off or not).  If the ignition is off and the nav on and you open the door I've no idea what happens...
