So if my car has a reversing camera and parking sensors, I'll have nice images and graphics on the screen to help me do a manoeuvre.  I then pop the door open for a second to see how close I am to the kerb and the screen shuts off?

Yeah that is what I'm getting at.  Yes yes I'm sure any specific example like this someone can come up with a way that you don't need to open the door, but that isn't the point.  Occasionally you are going to open the door while the engine is running... I don't see why the system should shut off in this case.

I wonder if you can change it in the software?

Slightly off topic but if Wi-Fi Hotspot is no longer supported than what do you gain from the Nav Pro over the normal Nav? A slightly bigger screen and the ability to play DVD's and an internal HDD for £1000? Seems steep!
Current - MK7 Golf GTI - Tornado Red, 5 Door, DSG, Performance Pack, Dynamic Chasis Control, Panoramic Sunroof, Discover Navigation, Dynaudio.

On Order - MK7 Golf R - Pearlescent Black, 3 Door, DSG, Vienna Leather, Discover Nav Pro, Rear View Camera, High Beam Assist, Keyless Entry, Dynaudio (Tech Pack)

All gone.

Now;

MK7 Golf R - Lapiz Blue, 5 Door, DSG, Carbon Nappa, Discover Nav Pro.

Yes it is steep.  But you get some other stuff too.  I forget the full list but the 64GB SSD is an obvious highlight.  Not sure if the basic nav gets 2 SD slots, but you get 2 on the Pro.  The screen is more than "slightly" bigger though.  Its double the resolution, which is quite a big deal (I used to design these things).

And pro gets 3D nav where normal gets 2D and 2.5D (whatever that is) :)

Normal has 2 SD slots, one is used for Nav data.

The 64GB SSD swung it for me - but apparently you can only use 20GB as the other is used for Nav data

But I'll believe it when I see it!

EDIT:
Just watched the vid and it says 10!  Damn VW inconsitstancies!  It better be more than 10 though.  I'm not a music buff, yet I have something like 8GB just in stuff I bought on iTunes.  10 is not enough space.  Even 30 is pushing it.

However, you can always grab a 64GB SCXC card for music.

The 64GB SSD drive is nice but voice control has always been very useless and doesn't understand simple commands most of the time. With the multi-function steering wheel I can't see it ever being that useful.

The larger screen is nice I suppose, I really think they should have sold the Pro Nav for £1000 and that would be far more reasonable though.

why would you want to open the door to check? you've got a camera, sensors and a dipping wing mirror on the nearside.

The mirror dips on the passenger side, so if I was parking next to a kerb on the drivers side I might want to pop the door open.  I suppose my point is that there is a perfectly normal situation that could lead to your screen shutting off because of the way kessy is wired up.  Doesn't sound ideal.
I suppose if you open the drivers door and you've taken your seat belt off you'll have to fiddle around with the auto brake anyway. if your in the car still then nothing should shut off

When I had my two test drives (one for me and one for the missus), on both occasions the dealer had the key and was standing away from the car ie. not in it nor by the drivers door - and on both occasions the nav, radio etc worked - and this was on the DNS and the DNS Pro.
