Clement Atlee is the father of our modern nation, the political sleep walking post WW1 and the new europe post WW2 inspired a change  we all still reap the benefits from.

Its all well and good pointing out the failings and future policies of incumbent or inheriting governments, but what feasible alternatives are there in UK politics?
Even if we had a party which could deliver a fair, just and profitable nation there would be a large portion of the country against it due our political system, and large chunk of populace too apathetic to vote for it.
There is not one party fully fit to run the UK, its easier to maintain the status quo and stick new coat of paint on the same sh1t which in turn is what folk are happiest to put up with.
Who here would pay 50% income tax to rebuild the nation? (that's another 25% off your current take home)
BOT, this is why I think so many people now look at Thatcher as a good leader, she did buck the trend and stick to her guns.......

It has been said that democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others that have been tried - Winston Churchill

One of his famous quotes, google it, etc if you don't believe me.

I didn't like the women but I certainly wouldn't rejoice at her passing. My dad, god rest his soul, hated the women. I remember being in my teens and every time he saw her on tv, his blood boiled. I guess you do follow your parents beliefs, but from what I remember, she made it fairly hard for most working class families. Now, I'm not just talking people who got benefits etc I'm talking about the average working man or woman, like my parents. Hard working, never had any benefits of any sort, but still struggled.

If I tried to sell you your own car, what would you say to me ? You'd tell me where to go, but she privatised a number of companies that were already state owned. Who benefited from that ? People who had money and could buy the shares in the first place. Unfortunately, that wasn't my family. If the government said to you now, we're going to privatise RBS you'd rightly tell them to go away as you already own a part of it.

As for the miners, she f**cked them big time. Yes the unions had too much power at that time, but she turned that screw so tight she made it very hard for a number of families for a year. These were ordinary people that had no choice but to go with what their union said because the alternative was unbearable. These families had no money, no income and no form of supporting themselves for over 12 months. The government put that pressure on them because they wanted to make a point with the unions. How is that acceptable in a civilised society ?

Finally, Hillsborough (as in the football disaster), she was part of the cover up for that and it's caused pain and anguish to a number of families for 24 years and for that alone she will never be forgiven. Please dont anyone say that she wouldn't know about the cover up as you seriously can't believe that the prime minister didn't know what the south yorkshire police were up to when she had been in bed with them a few years previously kicking the sh1t out of the miners.
......now officially dubless.

They're just starting to come out as the 30 year rule lets classified information out of the closet.

Falklands was this year - plenty more fireworks to come in the next few years.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

I laugh at politics. I still cant believe some people think its beneficial to them when in reality all it serves is big corporate interests. Our government, and most around the world do not care a jot about the people, they just want them to take what their given and shut up. What bothers me however is the constant liks to corruption and especially child abuse that most seem to turn a blind eye about. How about Thatchers close relationship to Jimmy Saville, surely that is a more important issue. Did she know? Dis she assist? An investigation was carried out in 1999 (Operation Ore) by the Britains National Criminal Intelligence Service and by 2003 had begun compiling reports on certain individuals within british politics just as Blair issued a D-Notice which stopped the details of the investigation being published. So basically while their is even a slim chance our country has been, and still is being, run by animals there is no point in thinking a saviour will arise out of the political system. Doesn't matter if they are guity, but even covering up such horrific actions makes them rotten to the core.
