Yes that was another great Tory leader - Edward Heath that took us into Europe and got us shafted on the terms of entry.
But then he was well used to being shafted and entered!

Please do some reading before opening your mouth and letting idiotic words fall out of it, wot you heard down the pub.

Here is your starter for 10:

As for the billions the EU costs the UK, have a browse over here and maybe you will get a better understanding of that, too:

Blair did many things, but entering the UK into Europe was not one of them.

I ain't getting into anything more on this I ain't a moron I don't follow the politics just from what you said heard down the pub and off politic followers ill have a look on the links to get clued up on it
I can't argue on something I ain't 100% sure on and especially your posts I read when your answer people lol.

What I was told before was Blair signed something to do with the EU without a vote
Also illegal immigrants had something to do with him
And the afgan war should not of happened but I won't listen in future  :undecided:

The vote is when you elect them!
Once you have voted them into Parliament they have "the peoples mandate" so can do what they like without reference back to us The People.

Vote for UKIP mate then you might get a vote on Europe.

Would you believe I've never voted. :lipsrsealed:

I don't really follow politics myself but I don't really seen vote making a blind bit of difference.

This is why England needs MMP:  http://youtu.be/QT0I-sdoSXU

I say England as Scotland and Wales are already using AMS which is pretty close.

Blair promised a vote on Europe and then went back on it, just like DC will.
Blair opened the doors to migration as a way of boosting the economey without tackling the difficult issue of making able folk work instead of claiming dole, something which will be very hard with a low minimum wage and our consumer driven lifestyle....(can run a Mk4 on benefits but not on £6 ph )
Blair sent us into Afgan, which out of the two wars we entered was the most just as there really was a threat from the terrorists who trained there, unlike Iraq which was to subvert Irans growing power in the region and make the Saudi's a little more comfortable.

I cant actually think of a leader which the whole country agree was good.....even Churchill has some terrible skeletons in his closet.
Suffice to say that in the 70's the UK was in a state and for a time it got better under Thatcher, but like most politics it turns bitter eventually through lack of change and political desire to gain further terms in office. New labour rode in on promises of something new but just kept on with conservative policies which gave us a "boom and bust" economey, something that they campaigned against and said they would not do.
Out of all the leaders of this country during my life time at least she did what she said she would, get caught with her pants down or palm off her speeding points etc etc.

I always thought John Smith would have been a good PM, guess we will never know.
I blame Oliver Cromwell for all this.

John Smith was the best PM we never had.  Maybe.

Here's a jolly article about just how good Thatcher was for the UK:

http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/comment/mark-steel-you-cant-just-shut-us-up-now-that-margaret-thatchers-dead-8568785.html

There were a lot of people who she didn't make things for and the people are the country ergo she didn't make the country 'better'.  She sucked money out of the poor and delivered it to the rich.  Unfortunately as you outlined, those following in her footsteps have continued to do the same.  Twas not always that way - see Clement Atlee for further details.

Would you believe I've never voted. :lipsrsealed:

Yes.

I don't really follow politics myself but I don't really seen vote making a blind bit of difference.

Just to clarify (aside from the poor sentence construction), you don't follow politics, so by not following it you wouldn't have seen how voting for something you believe in might make a difference if like-minded people got elected.

Your argument is astonishingly self-defeating.

Go on - try voting in the upcoming local elections (if they're happening in your area in May).  Understand what the candidates stand for and then take a few minutes out of your day to put a tick in a box of the person who represents most closely what your believe in.

At least then if someone you vote for doesn't get elected and the public services in your area aren't any good (you know - things like rented accommodation conditions management) then you have the authority to say 'they're useless, but I didn't vote for them'.  If the person you vote for DOES get in and you have a problem then you have a mandate to pick up the phone to them and air your concern, ending with '...and I bloody voted for you!'

It's empowering.

When you stop and think about how many services local government provides you will be surprised at just how much of your life it touches on, funds and regulates.... although Thatcher and her ideaologies have tried to offload as much of that into the private sector as possible, so we can fund corporate bonuses for large and foreign companies straight out of our Council Tax..... good eh?
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

That short story was very compelling. I feel like I now know more, but I would need to look into it further and try understanding what it all means before considering who to vote for.

I'm not even sure when elections are taking place in my area!

Poor sentence construction has been my thing for many years.

Again this.
If the conservatives get back into power in 2015, the NHS and our roads will be next to be privatised.
People need to think carefully about this.....

Kirk, if you're not registered to vote, do it here for your area: http://www.southsomerset.gov.uk/councillors-and-democracy/elections/electoral-registration/

It will improve your credit rating among other things, if you haven't bothered before!

Your local elections ARE May 2nd, as outlined here:
