You mean where are all the southerners?

I am not a a Thatcher hater or particular lover, but too many people jumping on this band wagon of hate for no reason when not understanding even what PM stands for.

I think most people young and old understand what Thatcher stood for.
Saying that, i still can't join in the celebrations.

I remember the rubbish piled up 10 feet high on the streets, I remember being sent home from school when the teachers went on strike, post office on strike, miners, trains on strike, buses on strike, Ford on strike, shipyards on strike, IRA bombings etc etc etc.
I remember my area getting better through the 80's, my folks buying their house off the council with money from my dads start up business and shares he bought and sold.
We definitely benefited from her government.

I cant say what she did for the north of the UK, I did not live there.

I am not a Tory

Huge North/South divide on my FB about this.

Disgusting what some people say. Should be f**king well ashamed of themselves.

agree Jord, totally agree.

she picked up a sh1thole of a country that was in ruin after the 70's and was a very very strong leader for our nation, ok she might not have made decisions that were popular or indeed correct, however, a lot of what she instigated would have happened anyway and she just made it happen sooner, which, as it turns out was probably for the best.

She was the last politician with the courage of her convictions and the guts to say what she meant and do what she said she was going to do, the trade unions were bloated and corrupt and were running amock through british industry, bringing the country to its knees.
I don't agree with a lot of her policies but i do wish we had someone of her caliber in charge of this country today.

Those on here, that are old enough to remember just how dismal the seventies were, will know just how bad it was, first hand!
Raging inflation, Power cuts, the 3 day working week (because the Trade Unions were controlling Coal supply! and efforts had to be made to conserve fuel!... imagine that today!) Mountains of refuge dumped in the streets, Industry completely crippled by Trade Unions, and a complete lack of foreign manufacturing companies definitely not wanting to invest... why would they! This list, that is a British disgrace goes on and on. Decades later. we have no Car manufacturing to speak of, Car production is now pretty much all Foreign owned, companies are now happy to do business, now the Trade Unions are out the way! The rest have gone, Austin, Morris, Rover, Triumph, Daimler, again the list goes on, and on.
Nationalised Industries, Coal, Steel, Rail etc etc were literally hemorrhaging money, for many different reasons, and not forgetting our beloved "Welfare State" was now in full swing
Britain was a sh!thole, in a big mess, being run by overpowered Trade Unions

Yep, this country was just fantastic before Thatcher came along!

Correct Thom.
This shows why far left politics are a failure.
Today we are seeing why the far right is failing in a different way, but just as badly.

i'm not old enough to have experienced it but from what i see/am told, if i a politician does nothing, or does everything slowly they are hated and branded lazy and useless, if a politician acts swiftly and harshly making strong decisions like she did, they are hated, whatever you do as a politician is going to upset SOMEBODY but i don't think its fair to wish death on her just for being the only politican with the bollocks to do anything (ironically) although it may not have always been for the best...
