MK2 Valver - what grade of oil ??
« on: 02 August 2005, 13:56 »
I'm just about change the oil in my valver as it's always around 100 degrees from normal driving which seems rather high to me. Probably cheap old oil which won't help!!

What grade of oil should be used on these babies ??

Good question. Ive just changed the oil in mine. I asked for syntha silver from vw and i was just handed the 1st carton but now im wondering if its the right consistency? Do you get variations in syntha silver?

Yeah I'm guessing there are !

I had the same experience with my 8v though - just got handed the tub from my local 'stealer'. Seeing as the valver seems to be spending so much more time in the high revs (nothing to do with the driver ofcourse  :lipsrsealed: ) I wanted to make sure the grade is right or I'll be killer her slowly

Synta Silver is the one you want, 10W40 IIRC.

Its in a big silver bottle with 'Synta' written on it

Edit and get a genuine oil filter while you're there, the cheopo ones don't have the required over pressure & non-return valves!  GSF sell one listed as 'genuine' and vwspares sell a MANN filter which is oem quality :)

And Joe, I know expectly where the place is

The guy in the shop always used to comment on the condition of my silver 8 valve, probably gonna be a while till the valver is up to the same standard !

I'm hopefully going to !!

Just depends on when the car's off to the bodyshop - found a pucker place in Worthing, not the cheapest but I've been promised a quality job and they're VeeDub nuts!

Campers - Golfs - even a Karman Ghia lurking on their premises :)
