I think you need to set the iPhone 4s "phone name", I red it somewhere that sometimes if its not set the car has issues.

Thanks, yes i have the RCD310 and have followed the same instructions.  I do a phone search on the car, which finds my iphone.  But when i press ok there is a short pause and then the message "mobile phone is not compatible".  Also the vw uhv does not appear on my bluetooth list on the iphone at any time?

It's strange, it's as if the car knows the iphone is there but not the other way around?

Me thinks that the easiest way is to press the 'Phone' button, if sound is muted and nothing else then probs no bluetooth. But its not only the headunit you require for BT pal

Do you have any buttons above your head next to the map lights.

Obbzi;

You don't need a new head unit; yours is compatible. One option is to retrofit a VW BT unit (which I did having taken up a Steve P group buy); these either go under the driver's seat or behind the dash. Other retrofit options are also available that'll work with your HU including one sold by FISCON.

Should be lots of thread on here somewhere. You can obviously change to another HU if you want to for one that HAS BT integral; however with the retrofits you get the full screen menus etc for the phone and the DIS and steering wheel button integration is excellent., i.e. just as if the car cams from the factory with the full BT option fitted.
sssh; it's 'only a diesel'; but i love it!

MK6 GT140 TDi; DBP; Vancouvers; RNS510-D; Convenience pack; Storage pack; Philips Extreme Vision dipped bulbs; blue vision sidelights; red footwell lights; Yeti tips; GTD pedals; GTD gear lever; 'R' mats; RVC; Premium Bluetooth and some TLC.

What do those buttons actually do?
