Sorry to hear about your news Bajan

We were broken into for the same reason, 6-months into my ownership. Luckily, I didn't leave the keys downstairs/in the kitchen as this is where they looked. They disappeared by the time that the house alarm fully went off. Like your intruders, mine didn't touch anything else on offer, they were just after the keys which they didn't get.
I think your baby is probably out of the country by now, so good luck with all the long-winded insurance cr*p and hope the replacement suits you well.
(The wife was very unnerved by the fact that intruders were in our home so I installed CCTV and various other safety features).

Yeah my missus isn't happy, but is more concerned about me having another GTI on the drive. Truth be told I've got my own reservations. But not really sure what I should do, as I enjoyed having the car but have never had this kind of thing happen before. Part of me says I'm not going to be forced into having something I might not enjoy as much but then worry about attracting the wrong attention. I was thinking would a GTD cause as much of a fuss? But the cars look so similar I can't see that being any different. No offence intended to the GTD owners  :embarrassed:

The car was only 5 months old so the insurance "should" replace it with like for like if its in the first year.

Sorry, should have seen that from your sig and nothing wrong with a good moan

Seems that they are targeting cars around 6 ish months old - mines 7 months, so I'll be taking my keys to bed with me from now on.

I leave my keys downstairs, wouldn't want anyone coming upstairs when the wife and kids in their beds. Must be horrible to have this happen to you.

the gtd and gti are both fun to drive the problem is these morons that steal cars today need the keys to the car because the security is that good that they can't start them without them. I think both you and your partner have both lost confidence and are concerned if you have another nice car these morons will do the same thing.  I think at this point in time you both need time and look at how you can prevent it happening again? Sorry if I have gone into it to deep but it is a free country and if you want something nice then you should have it

I remember years back a friend on another car forum slept with his car keys under his pillow, woke up in the middle of the night to feel an arm going under his pillow  anyway this intruder ended up well and truly broken to pieces lots of broken bones but the guy whose house was broken into got nearly 3 years in jail

Yep and sadly this is the way the cookie crumbles now  you can't even protect your own property now without you personally getting done for it...

Do Revo not do a remap that can also immobilize the car?  Maybe time to get one?

Or park the car out on the street, that might fox the low lives!!

Personally I'd take the keys upstairs with me and let them take their chances.

Yeah agree, but won't put them under the pillow

At night we now park my partner's van behind my car, so they'd have to move that first to get to the desirable car    Like to make it as difficult as possible for them (not that we should have to)

Reasonable and proportionate force can be used to prevent a crime being prevented I.e.punch someone to be able to get to a phone, but don't chase them down the road with a baseball bat.

Am I reading this write? Is it a typo...?

So you park the ED in front of the van then...?
