« on: 24 March 2013, 10:34 »
As above. Wife keeps nagging me to book a holiday always wanted to go to egypt. But which area do we book? Sharm el sheik? Luxor? Want to be as close as possible for sight seeing such as the pyramids and mummies

Thanks

Well sharm is no where near the pyramids or luxor  But you can get days out to both the pyramids and Luxor  to see the valley of kings....  We stayed here http://www.thomson.co.uk/destinations/africa/egypt/egypt-red-sea/sharm-el-sheikh/hotels/reef-oasis-blue-bay-resort-and-spa.html and the photos just dont do it justice is amazing and 1 of the best in sharm And little tip at this resort the Junior suites for the extra cost are really worth it amazing rooms with a bed that could fit another 4 wives  haha

Wrod of advice if you want to do the pyramids or luxor from sharm Buy before you go via 1 of the excursion companies like Sharm Life as it is a lot cheaper than what your tour reps will charge... ALso be aware a trip to the pyramids From sharm Will start wil a flight at 6am and a flight home at about 11 at night so its a tiring day... Egypt is awesome mate The scuba diving is top class and we had an epic 2 weeks there

Ye what Damien said, me an the wife have been twice, stayed at Naama bay in Sharm both times and loved it. Did the pyramids and the scuba diving the first time and then just a nice relaxer for the second time we went.
The Egyptian sellers on the streets are very pushy, especially if they think you have just got there, i.e you are pale lol, Be firm and they will leave you be though.
Also, if you want to buy something, brush up on your bartering skills, you will generally get whatever you want for about half of the original asking price.
Pay that bit extra for a better hotel, you can get 2 weeks all inclusive in Egypt, at a very nice hotel, for a lot cheaper than most other places in the world, the last time we went we just wanted something cheap and cheerful so we only paid £600 for 2 weeks, the hotel was nice, facilities were pretty good and the food was ok but first time we went we paid £800 each and the difference was night and day.
Hope this helps

And be sure you know what you are eating and drinking. Friend at work couldn't return to work or eat or drink in public places after contracting a form of e-coli. She was basically quaranteened in he own home. Those treating her said Its not uncommon after Egypt trips.

Up until that point she had loved every minute of it. My bro and his wife have also been and the loved it especially the bartering but he is a tight fisted git.

I've been a few times. Best place we went was Sultan Gardens. Sharm el shiek.

Look at Alexandria too. Stopped there for a few days on the way back from the Gulf and was quite impressed. Second biggest City in Egypt, but its not all hustle and bustle, and not as bad with the street vendors as the bigger tourist resorts. Lots to do, and only a couple of hours on a Coach to Cairo.
