Performance Manifold Questions?
« on: 23 March 2013, 14:16 »
Iv been looking at performance manifold for my 8v gti, but don't think they will make enough power to be worth £200ish. what realistic gains do you get from them? Is it worth trying to get a second hand one if I can find one cheap enough?

None, waste of money.  Get your flywheel lightened instead for that money.

I had thought of that but wasn't planning on spending the £200. I was going to hold out for a cheapy or fabricate my own tubular manifold (which iv done before, if I can find some measurements I can make one for around £50 and good few hours). Can you buy pre lightened flywheels from somewhere? Or is at remove and find some to do my original flywheel?

I wouldn't bother.. you'll only be back in a few days to ask how to fix all the bits you broke trying to change it, go for a nice drive down to the beach and have an ice cream as its a lot less stressful and your standard 8v will get you there and back with no problems.

Hotgolf (Mart) off Club GTI lightens and balances flywheels (he just done mine for my 16v).  He charges £69 to do this but you have to supply your own flywheel.  Just buy one from a breakers or off ebay and then you can sell your current one when its all done

It just not the cost of the lightening.  It cost me £100+ to get a flywheel then have it lightened.  Gonna cost

me another £100+ to get it fitted and while flywheel is off its best to change clutch which is another £100.

But hopefully all worth it in the end
