Engine frozen due to extreme cold

Well i fecked up it seems. The golf has been giving me problems with the heating so i have had the cooling system in bits over the last month or so. Anyway as it seemed i might need to new water pump i never put my new coolant in the car. Well its been -9 down here over the last couple of days in the wind and its windy at my house we live on top the hill. The golf is frozen solid. I am guessing this engine will be ****ed now?
I have not run it in a while but i will assume the worst here, any thoughts.
BTW it's been that cold the hose pipe in my heated garage is also frozen today. Thats never frozen before even when it was outside.
Update on this it has has thored out today but there is no water in the system, i has come out somewhere. Been told the core plugs might save it but not sure. Where are they located? I have wet under the car.

if it froze solid must have been more water than coolant. Ice expands so prob ripped the pipework or the rad itself. best flushing it to see were the leak is.

Agree your best off filling it to see we're the water comes out and go from there. Hopefully it not done major damage.

Should of made it clear it was all water, i never put any coolant in as i think it needs a new water pump. I thought he cold weather was done but i was wrong.

Done the same with a combo van before! Not good.

Thaw it all out see what happens is all we can say?

More than likely its just popped a core plug and nothing more. Core plugs are in the block itself so when thawed pour water through the system, see where leak is, new core plug. Probably a garage job to be honest.

I got a garage to do my core plug (vr) part was a few quid and i should have done it myself! make sure hole is clean and tap in  :smiley:

Any clues to locations of the core plugs going to get it on my ramps at the weekend for a look see.
