Golf Foglights centre bumper - Off fog headlight
« on: 12 March 2013, 18:12 »
Hi All,

Basically I have foglights in the headlights,  these do not seem to improve much visibility however, and I like the look of the in the centre of the bumper,

I have a mk4 golf gti 1.8T (Intercooler on the left) so I cannot fit in the bumper sides. (Reason for deciding to mount to the middle)

Anyway,  I am looking at getting these http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_214268_langId_-1_categoryId_272450

And customizing the centre bumper insert to fit these, question is....  as I have foglights that are working and wired up to the interior switch currently,  can I not just take the live/negative off these and attach to my new fog lights.

Will this work with the switch aswell?  not to fussed about them working in the headlight and on the bumper,

Appreciate your help!

Thanks,

Dave

To wire them in, just tap into the wiring for the existing fog lights. However, bearing in mind we don't actually have much fog in this country is it really worth it? Plus they will look crap :lipsrsealed:

I quite like the look personaly  ill try tap into the existing then,  would this still work with the switch if I just take the live and negative?  We've had fog quite a bit down here in the last 2 years so it seems like a decent idea,  hopefully goes to plan,

Do you know of any foglights that would look better/perform better?

into the fog lights lines with some wire splicers mate, will work as you turn on or off your fogs

Has no one thought to say, that if he taps into the existing fog wiring that it might underpower the 4 fogs lights once there all on what I mean is for example there will be a certain ammount of Watts programed for the foglights then adding other 2 fog light will knock that watt in half meaning the bulbs will be underpowered and not be at there brightest settings?

...oh yeah lol

you'll have to make a curcuite then from your battery to a control box, from your switch to the control box and then from your control box to the new lights, i would also see if there are any LED kits available as they use less power so if my first suggesting goes bang you've got a back up  :lipsrsealed:

I assumed that the bumper ones would replace the ones in the headlights and that you wouldn't need to run all 4
