There has been lots of speculation about this

Equally Im fairly sure they cant make it retrospective i.e it would have to be from when the legislation was made  :undecided:

Please post your source / links

The information came from my tester who is a good friend. I mentioned i wanted to decat my tdi and he said its ok at the minutes but it will be a fail soon. Any car with a decat which was manufactured with one will be a fail

Is your friend doing what most friends do and exaggerate and use their position as leverage to make you believe something that is only a slight possibility?

Could VOSA or whoever it is just do that, ie Every car after 2000 must have 'standard' cat?

He has no reason to exaggerate all im telling everyone is something from a reliable source whether or not people believe me is up to them at the end of the day if someone wants to Decat thier car they will i just thought passing the information on could possibly save people a bit of money

From what I've heard from my boss, (Tester) it's actually a grey area. There isn't anything coming into the m.o.t for failing diesels without a Cat, but there is for petrols. So as I see it, some will fail you, some won't. You just have to go to the right guy ;)

Equally how is the tester to know what car is fitted with what. Take a DPF for example; not all cars are fitted with one even if they are the same car, built in the same year with the same engine etc etc
