Gearbox mods are what a lot of people forget.

What gearbox do you have? Best combo that I've worked out is probably a mk3 16v box with a vr6 FD and an LSD.

Whats the benefits of using a vr6 fd? More top speed low revs?

The VR final drive makes the gears longer so yes slightly higher overall speed

i pretty much skip first there is absolutely no point in going above 2k rpm in first quickly into second partial throttle until after 3k then foot down and if it does start to spin just lifting off for a fraction of a second is usually enough, you can make any car spin if you treat the throttle as a switch progressive throttle is the key, also if you are trying your launches at your local drag strip  launch in second but dont just side step the clutch at 4k as you will break something

Taller overall gearing will reduce torque at the wheels, which is what will spin the wheels.

A mapped 20v has a lot more torque than a standard 16v so would generally benefit from taller gears. Spinning wheels may feel fast, but you drastically reduce acceleration.

That's why diesels can use longer gears they have more torque.

Thanks people for advise.

Will be putting some pics up soon when she is to my standard as having a fair bit of work done on her

Indeed 1st and 2nd are useless above 2.5k as she will just light up the wheels.  I do like the engine though as it is the first 20vt I have had. If driven with care she is good on fuel, yet floor her and she will pick up very quickly. Only the other day I wondered what she was like when I came to an empty stretch of private road   I was doing around 50mph, dropped her in to 3rd and hard on the pedal, then to 4th and 5th and before I knew it I was doing 125mph.....As I say though, private road test

Not got a clue what speed she would top out at but this car does pull very well.  Loads of good help from Benvictors who is a legend with these engines and F17BAD......So got all the correct spark plugs for a mapped car, AFM cleaned, Inlet manifold cleaned, throttle body cleaned, all breathers cleaned, new oil and oil filter OE.....Car has been fully clayed on every panel, mopped, polished and waxed so looking good. Locks changed so same key fits all, Toad alarm system fitted, loads of little electrical gremlins all sorted.....So I am getting there!  I must have had some prying eyes whilst shopping the other day as came back to smear all over my back windows!  My American Bulldog comes with me everywhere, he is a brute!  He has his blanket in the back and sleeps and will carry on sleeping unless someone comes to close to my car so which he goes mental!  Well this must have happened the other day....Whoever looked in through my window must have got a shock to be greeted by a load of teeth

So all going good and as I say.....Pics will come very shortly when she is finished.....Till then here is my dog that saved my car!

I use a mk4 GTI 2.0 8 valve box (same ratios as mk3 16v) but iv changed Final drive to a VR6 item and fitted a Wavetrac Differential

i have no wheelspin and the handling is much better

i had sh!t loads of spin before this, it was almost pointless having so much power low down..   not any more

my advice is dig deep in those pockets

also fit decent rubber on your rims
