My tyre fitter refused to fit

It just looks rubbish and why compromise on safety?  Maybe I'm getting old but why set suspension so stupidly low you need to do this sort of thing.

I do agree with you on the looking sh!tty a normal ride height  , but I hardly look at mine atm so don't bother me, I get init drive to work, drive home that's about it lol. Fair play with the plans with your car, and I must admit if I had the chance to buy those modern lines, I would of too  . What I'd do is, sort the the handling out, do a bit of arch work and fit wider tyres 

I know what your all saying ,Handling will come ,but at the mo  im just chillin on these rims for a while as there the nicest wheels ive ever owned so want to get some use out of them.

don't blame the fitter for not fitting it TBH.

if something went wrong you would be the first to try a sue him. 

at the end of the day your runing the tyer out of manufactuer specks  so in therory all it certifaction is null and void so is it still even legal for road use ?   also should it suddenly pop and you spin out on a corner and flatten a bunch kids waiting for the school bus, thats going to be one expensive claim on your insurance company, if they think they can get out of this they will.  so ether you get sued, or they payout and then hit you for it.

whatever happens if something goes wrong, someone is going to loose all the money they have saved and all the money they havent yet earned.

What size tyre is that on what width rim?

I have a 225 on a 10" alloy (rear mk4 alloys), having a 225 is the only tyre that will make my car legal run.

Why not just fit tyres that are the right width?  More grip.

if hes having to fit streched tyres im assuming hes so low that the car wownt handle good anyway so grip doesent matter.


but +1, dont see the point in lowering a car for anything other than getting good handling, and just getting the lowest centre of gravity you can does not equal the best handling.  i have had my car at lots of heights ranging from -30mm to -145mm. and can safely say -50 to -60 was about the best handling.

I am only about ~40mm lower, still have plenty of arch clearance, and since fitting stretched tyres have noticed no difference in handling.

Also, would love to hear your opinon on air then 

my opionion on air is that its good for looks crap for handling.

cant really comment much cause only been in one car with air. but it fely like it was sat on two excersise balls. (Ould have just been crap cheep quality air ride) 

and also the point i was making wasnt really valid to airride cause you can change the height on air when ever you want. i was saying just cause you lower a car -130mm it dont mean its gonna handle better than -60 and will proberbly handle worse. And i have real life experience of this. car was last week at -145mm and handled like sh!t. over winter was -130mm and handled like sh!t. but i wasnt botherd cause it was winter and icy so couldnt go anywere fast anyway.  last night i raised it to about -80mm so will see how it handles now. my guess is a bit better but not as good as at -60 like what it used to be.

The police around Devon are starting to get tough with modified cars and i think stretched tyres will be one of their biggest targets, if you roll it off a trailer on to a show pitch then thats fine, but at 70mph on a motorway.....rather you than me.

Stretch compromises the integrity of the seal and structural strength of the sidewalls.

Sure it may look cool, but there is an inherent danger of running stretched tyres. I.E. they are more likely to roll off the sides of the wheels due to them wanting to come back together. Remember it's rubber at the end of the day, it's been preformed to a specific shape and will want to return to that shape until such point as it hit's it plastic region (when it will then be no good at all).

Anyway, in reference to the OP, it's his call and he felt like he made the right one. Whether you feel the same is up to you.
