Forgot to add i've got weird high pitched whirring noise inside the car but can't hear it outside the car with the bonnet up ???

Is it your fans? Have a listen around until you pinpoint the issue. I hate in car noises. I've got a loose heat shield which is a bloody irritating nightmare.

How does the ECU temp sensor work?, does it sense the temp and signal the ECU that's it too Hot or sumat?

If it does maybe cox you were in traffic, and temp went up, it may have cut engine off.

Wouldn't think it would cause this particular issue to be fair.

I've also bought new thermostat as the temperature is not sitting right, but don't think the cutting out is to do with that.

What sort of whirling is it? Could it be the footwell fan stuck on?
