Just when i thought everything was OK.
« on: 01 March 2013, 19:43 »
Well here we go again.Sat in a bad traffic jam in my local city for about 25 mins when all of a sudden the effing Mk3 cuts out on me AGAIN!!!!!.Got the flashing oil light again and oil temperature was up to 90 degrees.Don't know where to start now as i thought changing the crank sensor and having the TB re-aligned would have sorted the issue, along with the other numerous things i have changed.Looks like this ownership will be coming to a swift end if i don't get the bottom of it.

90 degree oil temperature is normal.

TB realignment is for MK4's onwards, MK3's don't have it.

Random cutting out could be ECU or fuel pump relays, crank sensor or possibly a dodgy wire somewhere. Best thing to do is plug it into vagcom and see what fault codes it throws up.

Hi Khare, already been there and done that.Changed the relays, new crank sensor and VAGCOM scan never showed up anything.Actually Mk3's do have TB re-alignment because i had it done on VAGCOM VCDS.It's an 8v ADY engine.

When you replaced the crank sensor did you buy a genuine one? I bought a cheap one from ECP and it failed within 5 days.

Have you had it on vagcom? Did the revs bounce all over place when oil light flashes?

Only cut out tonight about 5:30pm,so haven't had time to put on VAGCOM.Just cut out with flashing oil light.Tried to start it up again with my foot on the accelerator and revs bounced about a bit then, but engine quickly died again.Left it about 20 mins and started up first time and i drove it home, about 3 miles.

Sure I said this last time... But check the ecu earth under the battery tray. Make sure it's not burn inside. If it is.. Re earth.

I had the EXACT same issue. ECU earth was causing it.
