Revo (not your favourite mapper Geoff) has a fair bit of mid range punch but the stage 1 Bluefin is quite tame BUT when I drove a REVO'd mk6 regularly it suffered a lot of wheelspin and torque steer (admittedly it was on non standard wheels but had premium tyres fitted). When I drove a Bluefinned GTI the response was a lot tamer but traction never an issue.
The CR engines have nowhere near the character and mid-range urge of the 1.9 8V TDI PD lumps anyway.
The FR+ with a few choice mods is still in my opinion the most balanced car VW group did for years.
My car with Revo doesn't have any torque steer issues but will wheelspin if pushed in the lower 3 gears, accelerator is progressive though and not an on/off switch and I do not find this an issue 
My experience in said car also featured a SprintBooster which actually made the throttle an on/off switch
Not that I'm childish and enjoy such things...
