lasting impression
« on: 01 March 2013, 13:45 »
hey guys, last day of the gti ownership

thought i would take couple of mins to say the following IN CASE anyone is thinking
of going to a mk6.DSG

DYNAUDIO - is one of the things i loved most about the car, it is absolutely fantastic and for the price as an option when new its a steal - if this is an option on the mk7 - BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT !
Get RCD510 or above as the larger touchscreen looks soooo nice and works soooo well.

IF youre only option is tartan fabric (instead of leather) dont worry too much about it, it does have its benefits and gives quite a nice finish to the interior.

DSG - my experience with it has been  and would happily have it again, dont think you will use the flappy paddles much tho-i hardly touched mine , i cant ever see me going back to manual cars now

Adaptive chassis control - Didnt think i would want it / need it BUT after trying an ED35 with it, i would most definately have it, very very impressive imo and makes the GTI a limo when youre not in the mood

YES, there are parts where VW have skimped (LIKE MOST CAR MAKERS) but in the places it matters i think theyve got it spot on. To me the GTI excels in the area of being all things better than any other hot hatch, yes renault maybe better track car, the focus may have more power but these are irrelevant if when you turn up somewhere youre a bit embarrased looking like a middle aged speed freak. The GTI ooozes class and I have never ever felt emabarrased going anywhere in it, Lidl car park or the Ritz....

Why am i getting rid of it, honestly have no idea!
Well actually I have, the misses wants a new car  and I dont want to run a big 4x4 and this too although 3 times i have almost decided not to trade it in

Without doubt I will be back as this is one of the best cars ive owned and I have had a few 911's amongst other things so thats rearly saying something.

happy motoring guys and thankyou to an excellant forum.

Nice summing up.

Having had a GTI with Dynaudio and one without I can honestly say I've not really noticed that much difference at normal volumes. But I normally don't travel alone so probably don't make the best use of the hi-fi.

And could anyone really be arsed to keep swapping settings on the suspension?  The standard ride is fine.

And I've had one with leather and one with cloth. Give me the cloth any day, the leather isn't high quality and makes the interior drab.

The standard GTI is a fine balance, it just needs a bit more mid range urge which should be answered in the mk7 engine.

 never thought about when i enjoyed the dynaudio, you are correct that with passengers makes little diff as your not trying to blow there eardrums up, but on your own, crank it up and its a different league imo....

i thought the same about the suspension untill i tried it, tbh, i must be going soft cos thats where i had it most of the time
but seriously, in comfort setting it was more than stiff enough for road driving and dampened out the bad road surfaces like i couldnt beleive compared to my standard,.....expensive option though  for a comfy bum

100% agree on the interior

nice summing up but leave the ACC unticked and buy a B8 kit

having had a rocco for a few days (exclude the fact it was modified) i have to say the mk6 is a much nicer place to be sat and a much better balanced car

enjoy the disco

I had a ford focus recently and the Dynaudio wipes the floor with it on every level. So I wont be buying a mk7 unless there is some form of upgraded stereo, or the existing one is gooooood.

know what you meen. I split my driving 50% to 45% between a TDI130 and the MK6 GTI and I really miss the midrange of the TDI when in the GTI.
