Re: Service and alloy scuffing FINAL UPDATE
« on: 01 March 2013, 08:59 »
Hello,

I had my car in for its third service last week. I took it to be jet washed last night and noticed two little lines of scuff just above the wheel nut.The marks look like a slip from the nut. Two little lines about 3 cm in length. I have not removed any wheels since I purchased her.

I clean and jet wash regularly so I am sure that I would have noticed these marks just as i did last night.

My question is would the technician have removed the wheel or tested the tightness of the nuts during the service? I need to know that it is possible that this was done there before i pop in and show them.

Thanks

Doubt very much your have a leg to stand on really as you've left it a short while before noticing it...they will just deny it and fob you off...

I had mine in recently and made a point of telling the service manager that I've taken pics of all body work and alloys and that everything was spotless and it came back fine...

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!!

Thanks, yes, what you write is of course possible, however, if I know that they would have perhaps inspected the  nuts for tightness then I would still take her down and point the marks out. I know I did not make the marks so I would have to try.

Yep fair enough you make a good point, mine hasn't been serviced yet so wudnt know if they wud touch the wheels but if had to guess I wud say yes as I think when the cars in they do a health check on it and I think that involves touching the wheels...

I'm sure someone will be along to further my comments, good luck with this and let us know how you get on..

I always make a point of getting them to check over the car with me when I drop it off, just like they get me to check over the courtesy car before I sign for that.

As for taking the wheels off, it's to be hoped they do as how else would they be able to check the condition of the brakes properly?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Good point. On my previous services I have done the same thing, however, this time I had other things on my mind and simply left the car. Clearly a mistake.
I have called senior service lady and am awaiting a return call.

Exactly why I have changed to a specialist, VW techs don't give a monkeys and there is no difference to them whether its a fleet car or someone's pride and joy.

Attention to detail on my service was such that before he put the wheels back on the car all VW wheel centres were lined up with the air valve, that was not me asking him to do that I hasten to add.

I went out to the car before my trip down to clean the wheels and see if the scuff was removable. This is the first time I have been down on my knees over the wheels in 2 months because of the weather.
I noticed two white worm marks maybe 2mm in size on the two back wheels. One of which was the wheel with the scuff on.

I have just returned from the dealership having had the wheels inspected. 2 new wheels on order covered under warranty(expires in 4 days time).

I had three replaced in May last year and one of the affected wheels was one of those. Continued good service from lookers middlesbrough.
A good day.
