The 1.8T is pretty poor in standard form, but chuck £300 at it and you'll have a 200bhp/240lbft car which will destroy your 16v
off the mark yes and round the streets, but bet my old beast would keep up on motorway

I'd say quite the opposite bud.

Reckon a 16v would be a decent match for a 1.8T round the backroads and bends, pure NA power. Motorway the 1.8T on boost, bye bye 16v.

Infact the 1.9 PD130 Passat auto would have a 16v on the motorway. :)

Where all my moneys went.

Golf MK3 1.6. Golf MK3 8v GTI.

Few years back I used to work late shift and had few early morning races with a good friends Mk4 turbo, I could do him most times over the 7 miles up to the dual carriageway where boost and a long straight run always put him in front.

Honestly mate, you'd have no chance in a mk3 on the motorway. I went up against a mate's abf'd mk2 on a private airstrip and it was close until about 120 when I pulled away. Your mk3 is a bit more lardy than the mk2 was as well.

mk3 all the way!
Been saying this for years...all i hear is mk2..blah blah blah....

I absolutely love the look of mk2s and I bet the handling is so much better but you can't beat a mk3 for price and the interior is better
I had a go in a mk2 16v at christmas and i liked it a lot, felt sharper on turn in than a mk3 and suprisingly quick away from the lights.

not having it! my 16v on motorway hits 120 peace of piss then pulls to 150 easy
