Solid mounts.. / Gear shift...
« on: 27 July 2005, 18:01 »
Going to be purchasing some solid engine mounts aswell. Do i only need to buy one ???? or is there more engine mounts ... any help appreciated...

Also, gearshift is sloppy ... 2nd is crunching sometimes , what do i need to bring the box upto speed and back to normal, i read about some sort of reconditioning kit / bush kit ... who and where do i get this from and at how much ??

Thanks again people..

1st week into owning golf and i have already spent £300 - 400 with another load of things to buy aswell... going to be good though once everything is done ...

Not sure about solid mounts, but try GSF for the linkage kit to improve the shift, and also a weighted shift rod from VAG.  These are made for the Mk 3 but are a perfect fit for Mk2.  Try your local scrappy if you don't want to fork out the £12 for VAG part.  If changing the linkage you will also need the plate that holds the gear lever and rods in place when you put it all back together.  Available on fleabay for about a tenner.

Good luck!

some only have a solid front engine mount. Been told its not practical for everyday use as you get vibration through the car.

i can get you solid engine mount for the front. you only need the front one as its the only one that gets pulled, the others get compressed. i use one and have not noticed any increase in vibrations. pm me if you want more info.

solid front will be the best bet like joe said. leave the others as they are just make sure they're in good enough condition to cope. if you can fit the mk3 vr6 ones on the back as these are build to take the heavier 6 pot.
