GTI 16v fan not coming on?
« on: 15 February 2013, 11:10 »
Hi, ive had a few problems withthe cooling side of my gti 16v, ive just noticed the fan isnt coming on
Could it be a simple issue? Ive chexked the interior fuse no. 19 which is fine,
But is there a relay that triggers the fan, if so could anyone guide me too which one and a way of testing
It?

Thanks alot, dan

Check the fuse in the engine bay behind the battery.

Your fan control module is located underneath the expansion tank, there could well be a fault with that.

Ive checked the fuse located just below and in front of the expansion tank,
On the left is a 20amp and is fine, on the right there is a slot for fuse but nothing there,
Looks like its a blank? Anything else it could be in that area? Cheers

Ive taken the expansion tank off and unclipped and removed the
Box underneath! Seems like where the expansion tank has released
Water its got onto the connectors and caused some corrosion, is replacing
The box a good idea? If so has anyone got a working one going cheap, or
Is there anyway of testing it?

I think i may have shorted something as my car wont start? Fuel pump fuse and
Engine electronic fuse on the driver side fuse box are fine? Could it be somewhere else?

Ive pushed them all well in! Its turning over but no fire up! Not sure if its something to do with stupid alarm on it thats never worked! Its really baffled me???
Its gone from a simple fan fault to a pain in the arse! The alarm is the only thing i can think it would be but no one on here could help with that as its in a right state!
Is there anything else i can check before its certain to be the alarm!

Could this be an issue with the crank pick up sensor? read somewhere its a common fault with the ABF not starting? if so has anyone a picture of where this sensor is? Cheers

The sensor is up behind the oil filter,i would have a look at getting it plugged in for fault codes it may shed some light on this,it is strange that it was running ok till you started looking at the fan issue though  :undecided:
