Is it possible to upgrade brakes without bigger discs?
« on: 12 February 2013, 21:53 »
Pretty much as the title says actually - will be due a new set of front discs and pads come MOT time in June and would like to improve braking performance without fitting bigger discs. Is it feasible/sensible/cost effective to get a set of drilled discs and performance pads fitted or is this just going to cost more and achieve nothing?

Thanks,

Golf Mk IV GTi

Pads I guess!

312mm upgrade will save you calipers but you need carriers disks and pads

A real 304bhp 286lbft in a mk4 golf!

How old is your brake fluid?

If its ageing simple fluid change would give you much better braking performance than you realise,

Just make sure you buy a decent brand, I wouldn't bother with drilled & grooved for road use.

I fitted genuine VW discs and pads all round then had brake fluid changed, it made quite a difference!

^^This, they tend to crack really easy as well.

I agree with what everyone has said, they are good folks and you won't go wrong with their advise.
