Boiler issue for a friend
« on: 09 February 2013, 18:01 »
Hi, I know there's a few helpful plumbers on here, my friends got a Worcester 24i RSF Combi and they wanted an opinion before they call a plumber out. Basically the boiler comes on and off as it pleases for the heating and they seem to have a similar issue with hot water, they usually hear the boiler fire up as they turn the hot water off.

Thanks in advance!

I'm not a plumber but it sounds like they have a thermostat somewhere for the heating which would cause it to cut in and out when the temperature hits the correct temp in the room. As for hot water our system cuts the heating off when using hot water and when filling up the expansion tank. We have an air to water system which works different to a normal system. Basically when using hot water it overrides the heating if that makes sense.

This may not be what's happening to your mates i'm sure someone will have another answer soon

Ask your friend if the pressure needle is on the red mark on the pressure gauge.Alternatively they can try here.http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=151549

Yes I've tried google, throws to many results up, from relay, to pressure switch, to thermostat, to a brick thrown at a boiler. Needles not on red but at 1.5 bar, the hot water problem was described as:

When u turn hot tap on only sometimes goes warm then back to cold, when u turn tap off boiler kicks in but when you turn tap back on the boiler goes off

I've asked him to check that, but is like err whats it look like, I have explained its the plastic pipe that goes into any waste pipe as the water is acidic. I've told him to throw a brick at it, but his in sheerness and I'm transportless atm and in northwest kent.
