What a game...
« on: 08 February 2013, 18:51 »
Anyway in process of fitting my coil overs, everything is seized, had to drill top of shocker to get nut off...blooming old cars.. Anyway, whilst stripped out noticed N/S outer drive shaft gator is leaking, so thought I better renew it....What size is the centre drive shaft nut? And what torque is it? And does the outer joint come off via a circling or something? Or does the whole shaft have to come off, remove inner joint to enable fitment of the new outer gator?

Cheers DD

Driveshaft nut is a 30mm bi-hex.

Undo the Driveshaft then the bottom ball joint, you can then remove the driveshaft to change the gaiter.

As you said I removed the inner CV then the outer gaiter.

has to be multipoint socket to remove the main driveshaft nut; normal hex nut won't fit. Undo it while the car is on the deck - it'll be tight

Does the outer joint not come off? So therefore the whole shaft has to come off, take inner joint off then slide down gator?

Bottom ball joint out, driveshaft nut off. Chap driveshaft through hub, cut old clips off cv boot, cut cv boot off, chap off outer cv join, replace boot and fill with grease and new clios. Refit all back up.

But if everything is seized i have money on your cv joint being stuck in the hub

oh ok, so i don't need to take off whole shaft, then inner cv...the outer cv must then release via a circlip or spring type clip or something then?
can you confirm torque setting for nut, and what size it is?

Cheers

Whatever u do, don't wack the driveshaft out if the hub with a metal hammer

Use a nylon or similar
