Coding...
« on: 08 February 2013, 13:02 »
Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend someone other than the Dealers that would be able to 'code' a stereo to my Mk6 Golf 2.0 TDI?

I currently have installed a RCD 310 and I have a RCD 510 which I wish to upgrade to.

I have tried my local VW specilist in Nottingham C&R Enterprises but they tell me the car is too new and wont be able to do it??

Any help much appreciated

All you need is the security code for the 510 and then it'll be plug and play, you'll need the reg of the car that it came from to get it from vw or if it's an ebay purchase then get on to the seller.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

I have been lead to believe this is not the case,

Explanation I was given was because my car has parking sensors, and the car the stereo is comming from does not, this functionality will not work unless 'coded in?'  This is certainly what my local dealer and specilist independents is telling me.

Starting to get quite confused now

As Jimble said, just plug it in, enter the security and it will work. Even the climate control display.

I know. I've done it. Twice.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

FFS. Several people have done it themselves and not needed to code anything, but one person tells you different, and you doubt us.

For the sake of unclipping a piece of trim and undoing 4 screws, why don't you just plug the new radio in and see what happens? 5 minutes and you'll know, then you can come back and tell us all what happened.

If you are retro fitting stuff like rear camaras, parking sensors, bluetooth, mdi, etc, they have to be coded to the car, NOT the radio. If those items are already fitted and working in the car, they won't stop working when you change the radio

In the last few weeks I have done an RCD510 and an RNS510 that people have fitted themselves (new OTB) and which would not work and the units have needed a quick bit of recoding to work, no big deal but it does happen, I was not imagining it.
