fitted my eBay chip today!
« on: 07 February 2013, 18:47 »
so I fitted my £20 eBay chip today (got a deal) and went for a spin... such a great cheap mod! feels smoother all round through the revs, response is better and power seems a smigin better too. not seen any mpg benefit yet as I was pushing hard :)

overall very happy tho, would recommend

£20 chip? Says £42 on the ad?

Did this chip affect your limiter? I,e raise the limiter?
My old 1.4 golf only revved to 5.5k, when i got my new one it goes to 7.5k i think.
So was thinking maybe my car had already been chipped, but not sure where the standard limiter on a GTI is.

A 16v revs to 6800rpm. Revving a 1.4 to 7500rpm is about as pointless as a nun with huge tits. You're only going to end up wasting fuel. After round about 5000rpm the 1.4 is going to start running out of puff, anything over that is just wasting fuel.

yeah but a nun with huge tits is still great to look at :p

yeah it raises the limiter although I haven't gone far over 7k yet. I bought a chip for my 8v but didn't get to fit it before I crashed it so I messaged him to ask to swap and buy instead be kindly sold me one for 20.

how was the drive of the 'chipped' 1.4 compared to the other unchipped one?

Sorry, forgot to say "my new one" isn't a 1.4, its a 2.0l 8v GTI. My fault for leaving that out, was still asleep haha. So i assume because a 16v revs to 6800, that my 8v should rev somewhere just below that. So the fact my car is actually revving to 7500 means its most likely been chipped?

And oh i see, i thought you'd made an offer and he'd accepted less then half price haha.

Even an 8v gti will run out of puff around 5500rpm, check out my old engine.

And this was with a kent cam.

As you can see, 7500 in an 8v is a waste of fuel. On a 16v it'd be good, as it holds power to the limiter.
