Best mix of fast road handling, comfort, value, slightly lower =

Boge turbo shocks + Eibach spring kit

^ handles much better than a coilover kit for the same money.

Cheap coils are still pretty harsh at close to normal ride hight from my experience, the AP's I have on my white golf however ride as soft as silk with a little drop.

Spring kit is ~£140
Shocks are just a decent quality standard item.  They were available from GSF for something like £35 each, but you may need to contact a branch rather than use their web.

If your standard shocks are ok then they should work fine with the spring kit, it's jsut very well matched to these dampers.

I guess it depends how old and worn your shocks are.
If you have a fairly new set then handling will be better.
Sorry but ya gotta lower it! 25/30mm at least as it looks like a 4x4 if you dont!

+1 on this. standard height looks terrible.

I have had (over the years)

boggo std set up
non branded springs - o.e shocks -40mm
eibach springs - sachs/boge shocks -40mm (although it was more 25mm)
cheapo coilovers
fk top adjsutables and fk springs -40mm (again 25mm)

and the only one that gave any decent comfort was the o.e set up, even the boge/eibach was what i call "you can feel it" harder.

I have read about (semi custom) avo coilovers that have proper spring rates giving really good ride quality but they are £500!! they are said to be closest to o.e comfort when set correctly (not silly low)
