alloys vs steelies...
« on: 26 July 2005, 09:34 »
ok... im having a major argument with my dad over this.. my steelies that r currently on the car are horrendous, rustyn minging... will considering getting them sorted, but i wanted a set of alloys... been offered two lovely sets...   one which will need work and the other which are great (and polished already.... thanks! ) i wanted to put the alloys on as winter wheels and the sort out the other alloys for summer.... dad thinks its a bad idea puttin alloys on my car in winter.. am i being foolish? he says they'll corrode... but won't steelies?

please give me some advice... can't decide.. i know my dads always right.. but i want alloys on my car  :undecided:

thanks han

steels are best for winter, but having said that have got a set of good condition (not excellent but not shagged either) BBS RA's 15" with V.good tyres just sitting in my garage £150 and they're yours lol

were off bro's polo but they are 15" 16v MK2 golf wheels

well all it is really is if ya got a nice set of polished rims the last thing you want is Road salt and crap scumming them up.

so ya stick ya winter steels on having said that if ya gonna clean em all the time thro winter, hmmm on all fours in the cold and rain aint much fun lol then alloys are fine

all the salt and stuff on the raods in winter gets under the laquer painted alloys and reacts with the alloy causing the paint to bubble and you get a white flakey powderey look, notgood, this only tends to happen if you kerd the wheels get stone chips or scratched by naff tyre fitters though..

steelies a better choice for winter 15" g60 steelies look the nacks i think!!

wire brush and a tin of hammerite  < thats the lazy way, but also the cheapest.

steelies for winter, alloys for summer.
