Ed35 more problems
« on: 02 February 2013, 23:23 »
 was out in the ed35 today after being stored away last few weeks due to weather when a strange noise started at traffic lights I pulled straight over and on inspection noticed the cambelt hanging off and a cog hanging out on a angle! Quick call to vw assistance and car is now on driveway, maybe new engine our rebuild? I ave a feeling the next week is going to be fun

The car runs so unlikely cam belt do you meen alternater belt?
Could be the clutch flywheel on the aircon?

If it is the cam belt and it is the bottom cog coming out then that is the cog that fits to the crankshaft!!!!!!!!

I'd expect that if this has moved then you'd be looking at a new engine under warranty as the cylinders will most likely have impacted with the valves and possibly have even broken rockers.

If it is the alternator belt I doubt if the engine would run noisy! And it only has pulleys, not cogs.

Looks like the tensioner is hanging out on a angle, when rac guy started it up sounded bad, not what u expect on a 10 month old car with 4k

On closer inspection now in the light it's a bronze small ish cog hanging out midway dwn the driver side no where near bottom must not be crankshaft

It would be a rare occurrence for the bottom cog to be out, however the tensioner being loose still isn't good as the timing belt can jump teeth which can be just as bad. My advice would be not to drive it and have it transported to the VW garage and ask for a full report.
