Does it take the reading from the manifold itself or from the engine bay? If its the later I could try find somewhere to put it. I'm guessing its the first tho 
The clue is the fact that it's bolted to the manifold!
It's measuring manifold temperature.
It needs to be bolted to something that's earthed too...or you will never get the switch to make.
