As for illegal, yea I understand that but everyone who has them arounf my parts never get pulled  :undecided:

As fot m.o.t time, I will be doing the m.o.t, and I'm quite capable of putting my old headlights back in.

As for blinding people, mine will be in projectors so A LOT less likely to blind anyone.

And finally, being douches? Surely each to there own!?

Dont matter what you say Hoggy HID kits are well hated on here mate and if you have them your classed as a chav,w**ker or a t*at  as you said mate each to there own.As Ive already said in many threads about HID lights Ive had them fitted to my last 3 Golfs and never had any issues with fellow drivers flashing me or giving me any indication what so ever of my lights causing them problems. If I was I would remove them from my car and throw them in the bin simple as that. From my own personal experience of being blinded its been from more modern cars like Range Rovers,Audis and BMWs etc maybe they should all fit Night breakers or what ever there called..

You've hit the nail on the head there!!

If I was to get bother from them then I would feel shamed into throwing them in the bin too, but as you said why get rid of something if its good?

The old saying why fix something when it isn't broke comes to mind?!

So no HID kit then?

Anyhow, just to give a bit more background to it, there are actually some subtle differences to the projector lenses in terms of aperture size and durability which makes them unsuitable for HID's. However is it enough to affect the light pattern..... possibly.... possibly not, it depends on the lights. So that is the reason they are fitted in specific units.

I do have a question for you though... surely it cannot be legal to perform an MOT on your own car... You could pass anything.

Mine take about 30 to 45 mins to remove as I have a set of standard bulbs I just refit for MOT time.In regards to legal and illegal I would say most cars on here would have some sort of illegal MOD if you really dug deep.People slag HID kits reminding us there illegal when they all have Remapped, uprated suspension, bigger wheels and what ever else on there cars

In response to your question, as an m.o.t tester you are trusted to test to the rules and regulations. Hense why vosa re always on our backs about what we do. Imagine if I was half way through testing a car that was unpassable and I pass it, the vosa bloke walks in, I'm up sh!t creek without a paddle. Now that is not worth the risk of my job.

Well that was kind of my point, to say that you could test your own car with (let's use the current topic as an example) HID's fitted and pass it. No need to remove etc. I was only interested from a technical standpoint, couldn't really give two hoots what you or the OP decide to do.

Anyhow, back to your moral dilemma.

Edit: Nerf: you will be glad to know my car is 100% standard.

Did wonder about this myself, cannot see that it is right or legal to mot your own car.  :undecided:

I have to say, in light of "being blinded" I too have only really noticed that its range rovers, bmw's etc that seem to blind me.
I say fit your kit see how you get on, if you feel you get a bad response from other road users then do them all a favour and do the right thing.
As for what kits to go for look for any H7 hid kit but don't go cheap because cheap ones tend to fail and you will find that they will flicker/blink when you first put them on while they warm up. Also the lower the "K" the more blue they appear the higher the "K" the whiter they appear e.g 4000k-12000k.
Also bare in mind that you will have to cut holes in the back of your headlights.

Good luck :)
