Fuel, spark, no go urgent!! Sorted

Hi all, my mk2 8v digi with a 2ltr bottom end is not firing up, it's got a good fuel supply, good spark, new air filter, timing marks are lining up and a new blue sensor, it was running fine, my son decided to play about with the screw on the throttle body the screw that I think adjusts the mixture (it made the car idle slower) I'm not sure if it's a coincidence but now it won't start
I've cleaned up the rotor arm and the dizzy cap. The fuel pump is priming for about 2 seconds and comes on again when I crank the car over... So is there any default setting for that screw or any other suggestions?

That could be the reason although there are quite a few other reasons, Make sure all pipes and hoses are attached and plugs are plugged in etc Sounds to me like that screw or something got knocked and wants putting back,
You have fuel you have spark so your missing air! so it has to be the mix!
If im wrong im sure someone will point it out but other than that it could be your mass air flow meter, VDO Idle controller (Pray it's not this @£260! )

Yeah jess sounds about right,.I'm just about to leave for a 13 mile walk to work keep any ideas coming I'll check in throughout the night. I'll try cranking it tomorrow whilst adjusting said screw

I've just had a funny thought but how old is your lad?? My eldest is 6 and if he ventured round the back it would be a worthwhile check nothing is up the exhaust!?

LOL no he's 19 pretty goodwith cars just impatient and will randomly start adjusting stuff 
Update. I got it running yesterday changed the starter motor as it had jammed, firedup after that ran ok, went out later in the evening back to square one, just turning over and not firing...any advice please?

Will it fire up with a squirt of easy start?

You can narrow it down to a lack of fuel if it does.

Tried that about an hour ago made no difference at all, disconnected the blue sensor no difference, disconnected the maf no difference..starting to pull my hair out now :/

What colour are the plug's? and are they new? If so did you gap them and were they the right length?
Im no mechanic by the way im just learning but i pick up pretty quick i think they call it a mid life crisis
I say this because theres that little switch thing thats by the throttle "Someone throw us a line on what thats called and what it does anytime
But he could have done something with that as it is in situ with the mix screw!?
Mine is starting to splutter like mad and im sure it's that expensive VDO idle controller because some idiot (i can only assume for the alarm which is right by it) has butchered the wires to it near the plug! I can only hope it's a poor contact thing or im gonna find myself sleeping in my leaky garage!
My dad is however a mechanic and he is a keen reader to say the very least and he loves this site and gave me the whole history on why my fan's are blowing cold lol so thats on the to do list!

Get son to sit in the car turning it over. Loosen off dizzy housing before hand (just so you car rotate it) and rotate it whilst he is cranking. Sounds more like a timing issue if you have fuel and spark, it's just the spark is in the wrong place. Does it smell of fuel when cranking and get stronger?

May well need a new hall sender as well.

Sorry Slick i couldn't find another way to ask as theres no pm sort of thing but i have the haynes service and maintainance in PDF for the golf mk2 if there is some way to post it as a sticky?
