Get son to sit in the car turning it over. Loosen off dizzy housing before hand (just so you car rotate it) and rotate it whilst he is cranking. Sounds more like a timing issue if you have fuel and spark, it's just the spark is in the wrong place. Does it smell of fuel when cranking and get stronger?

May well need a new hall sender as well.

We tried the dizzy twisting thing last night but it got very dark, cold and windy so called it a night, I did think it started to pop a bit, I'm going to do the whole timing today from scratch as when I went to undo the dizzy it was loose? Which made me think it could have thrown the timing out :/ I'll. Report back
Thanks for all the advice so far
Btw yea plugs are new and gapped according to Haynes

Try the ignition moduel that sits ontop of the ECU. You get fuel and spark even when they are faulty and the car wont start.

Sure the timing isnt 180 out?

Had a similar problem a while ago.

Right fingers crossed its sorted  I swapped the new genuine blue sensor for my old crapy different in one and it's started up first time  so I've tuned her up following RJs guide and it's running better than ever, bit smokey but then it's just been rebuilt and not run properly, so I'll give it a while and put some milage on the clock.
I shall be visiting vw dealership on Monday and voicing my disappointment !!
Thanks all very much indeed  :)
