Please help guys I have lowered my golf and broken the bar that runs across the exhaust chamber near rear of the car and its dragging on the floor
so I'm guessing my question is do I need it or can I rip it off

You can take it off as it is only held on by 4 x 17mm nuts. I removed mine to change the exhaust and simply never fitted it back, but will do as it does protect the exhaust over low speed humps etc.
Your choice ultimately...

I lot of people remove it. But il always leave it after my exhaust desided to split on the motorway. It split but just sat on this bar. Wouldn't like to think how it would of ended if I tok that off

yes, protects your exhaust.... and if it falls off and you won't loose it on the motorway when doing a hundred....
