Spacer size required for R32 alloys on Mk5 GTI
« on: 28 January 2013, 09:33 »
Hi folks,

I've just acquired some R32 alloys (the later style) to go on my Mk5 GTI, being a complete novice i thought they would be a straight swap, however, i've been told I need spacers?

The wheel reads- 225/40ZR18 92W XL and the alloys measure 19.5'' across.

Any idea what I will need to fit them and where I could get them from?

Kwik-fit, Halfords and VW have been unable to help so far!

Many Thanks

Jb

Exactly what I thought given that they are VW wheels! The guy said that without spacers there will be a lot of vibration when doing motorway miles.

Thank you for your reply.

Unless he means spiggot rings which locate the wheel onto the hub, are they genuine wheels.

No he definitely said spacers and described them as a plastic part which sits in the gap between the plate and the screw holes on the alloy.

Yes they are genuine ones.

Thanks

spacers should make no difference weather you get vibration on motorways.

spigot rings could cause the alloy wouldnt be touching the centre hub spiggot thingy (not sure what the sticky out bits called :D )

however i couldnt imagine the R having a different sized one to a GTI?

If they are running plastic spiggot rings I suspect they are reps.

Hi all, they are reps i've figured out although i was told they are gen. My bad- limited knowkedge around this area.

I am totally clueless now though, no one seems to know what size i need and i don't know how to work it out!

If anyone knows how to figure it out i'd be most grateful- there are so maby different types online.
