Rear disc brakes stick

Hello,

My estate has rear discs brakes that i believe are from a gti. A friend told me that sticking rear disc brakes are common on the mk3 golf. He also mentioned that an upgrade to mk4 would stop this. If this is correct what needs to be done, or is there anything that makes them better i.e. dont stick with the mk3 ones i have.

Chances are they are getting moisture in and are frozen... and if this is the case the cable itself will eventually fail

Rear calipers of the mk4 is the way forward

It's just the caliper you need.

I think you will need to get brake lines too.

I have same problem. Main problem of the caliper seizing would be the seal on the piston is ripped and yo could purchase a rebuild kit from biggred under 30

I need to add. check the calipers because the mk3 handbrake cable also splits letting in moisture and it then freezes!

although I agree with mk4 calipers being better than the mk3 one's although they also have issues with seizures!! (goodridge do a hose kit for about £30 if you want to go mk4 although I would go for the full kit which is around £80)

I believe well maintained mk3 calipers work just as well myself (keep the handbrake mech clean and lubed and you shouldn't have issues)

thanks for your help. the mk4 upgrade looks like a good idea but i think ill have a good look incase a good clean will keep mine working better thanks all
