Should I go for a MK4?
« on: 18 January 2013, 17:12 »
Hi all,

I currently have a 97/P reg MK3 GTi that I've had for just over 7 years now.

I think it's time for something newer, so I have been considering a MK4 GTi, probably a 1.8 Turbo rather than a 2.0.

How does the MK4 compare to the MK3? I left the VW stealership I worked for a few months after the MK4 was released - I don't think I drove a GTi, but can remember not being overwhelmed by the "normal" versions of the MK4 at the time.

You're asking the Mk4 section if we think you should scrap the mk3 and get a mk4...

If you're a good home mechanic then go for it. If not you best have deep pockets to pay garage bills...
I often wonder why people never expect sarcastic comments from me - they're the only reason I speak...

The 1.8t. Is sluggish standard you would need to remap it to get real power out. Good cars just lot niggly things go on them. 1.8t is very tunable if thats your after.. Plus there cheap now
