« on: 14 January 2013, 22:11 »
Hi guys, when my agu  gets up to temp i can here the top end rattleing  away, its not super loud but its really annoying me ,sounds like an old kent crossflow, whats the first port of call to remedy this , i am using fully synthetic 5w 40, engine has about 65k on it ,when starting from cold its totally quiet ,what do you guys think, ive read allsorts from blocked strainer ,worn oil pump, replaceing the big end bearings , change the oilgrade, cam chain tensioner the list goes on

What engine mate ? I changed the oil pump and cleaned my pick up pipe on my turbo because of same thing it was not to loud when cold but got louder when it reached temp. I would clean the pipe up pipe and change oil pump and go from there

Its a 1.8t agu mate,so did this totally cure your noisey top,i was thinking of getting a oil pressure gauge to get some figures, how long did you run it before it got fixed?

Yes mate it did and mines a AGU as well. It did about 20-30 miles but it was noisey bit time when warm. When I did it the oil pump looked ok but the strainer on the pick up pipe was 90% blocked. I changed the oil pump as it made sense while I had the sump off and they are cheap enough

I used dirko mate  the only thing I would say is the 2 middle bolts between the gearbox and sump hidden away ones are easy to get out a bit of an arse to get back in. You need a 5mm ball end allen key.

Get it out of eurocarparts make sure you put it in the bolt holes. Whats wrong with the bolts mate ? As be careful what you use because when the sump tightens up you don't want to get it in the pick up pipe and block it

lol sorry bit slow there I cleaned my pick up pipe with WD40 and petrol. I know they are cheap and a lot of people say change them but seems lazy. A trick I use is shine a touch in the oil pump end you can see how clean the mesh really is. Hope that helps
