CAREFUL WITH MOBIL 1 ONLY ONE VERSION IS VW APPROVED.
In the manual it says the vw standard you need. Vw ###.##
Check the back of the can to make sure it is vw ###.## approved.
ONLY use oil APPROVED to this standard, DON'T use oil that says MEETS the standard either.
Meets meens nothing its a legal term it does not meen it has been tested.
Be very careful when trying to choose the correct oil.
Mine was billed to VW as using
Platinum 5 40
At its last two services at the main dealer

non-LongLife Time and Distance servicing for petrol engines is 502.00. This is usually a fairly high spec 'fully synthetic' oil, SAE 5W40
Longlife oil
504.00 - is the spec for petrol engines, this is the latest VW LongLife "3" specification. SAE 5W30.
Note about my photo of my oils
The Castrol edge is the longlife oil 5W30
The VW Quantum platinum is the non longlife oil 5W40
right on there, mobil 5W40 IS vw approved, 5w30 isn't, at least ones they are selling in Cyprus. From what I see on the UK mobil site there's no 40 option, it's the 5w30 recommended for the 2.0 engine, Not sure about Castrol, I've been using the mobil one since always.
