Turbo exhaust seal question?
« on: 12 January 2013, 13:33 »
Ok so I had my car in the garage as it was blowing. When it came out of the garage it was fine for about a week or two. I noticed some pink sealer around the turbo where the downpipe attaches to it. This pink sealer is no longer there and the blowing is back. So what I was wondering is, is it a gasket that has gone allowing the blowing to come back? If so does anyone have a part number for the gasket please

start it up from cold and have a feel about. there is a gasket there which could have given up, there about £3.50 from vw, or it could be the weld that goes onto the flange for the turbo is leaking which would be a perfect excuse for a decat! try just tightening the nuts 1st
if it is the gasket its not a big job really, undo 4 bolts, lower downpipe, gasket off, new1 on and bolt back up. i guess you could put a smidge of sealer in there too. hope thats helpful
i think i love you.....

What do you mean weld that goes to the flange? They put on a new flexi pipe for me so I know that's good but maybe they didn't put a new gasket on it so it could be jiggerd? My knowledge isn't great about 1.8t ha ha. But cheers mate I will have a go when the missus is at work tomorrow :)

you're not meant to use any sort of sealer on those joins, just the standard metal gasket. Sounds like they couldn't be arsed to do it properly so used some exhaust paste

Does anyone know what the gasket looks like? I've just googled it but it came up with a double gasket?  :undecided:
