RCD310 upgrade
« on: 09 January 2013, 22:27 »
I'd like to upgrade to an RCD510. The cheapest I've found brand new is £299. If I go the Ebay/second hand route, will I need a code with the unit? If anyone on here has one to sell, let me know!

Cheers,

Nige

£299 is quite a lot. The going rate for "as new" taken from cars at or soon after PDI is around £200. Keep looking and you'll find one.

You will need the code, but other than that it's plug and play.

Thanks. Am I correct in assuming that the new unit will have to come from a car that has Climatronic, to allow the settings to be displayed, or are we into complications with codes? Just looked at a previous post which indicated this might be the case!

Cheers,

If you are paying that much why not pay that bit extra and get the sat nav unit

£200 for the RCD510 roughly.

£400 for the RNS510 roughly.

For sat-nav, dvd and a bit better screen...really worth the double in price?

Yeah, that's about the money on flea bay! Sat nav not a requirement TBH, got a nice Garmin that I use if I go anywhere special,(& that's not often)!

And yes, the climate control display will work.

Cheers, I've just picked up a PDI unit from Ebay, £194. Price seems around the money the newer units are making, oh, it's a DAB aswell. Is a glass mounted aerial the way to go?

Yep. Tuck it up in the top left hand corner and you'll soon forget it's there.

Thanks for everyone's help so far! Before I fit the glass mounted DAB aerial, are there any tips on the best way to route the wire from the radio to the aerial, (which I'll site on the nearside, top of the windscreen), I don't want any wires visible!

Cheers,
