Lets see if there is any bargains to be had! Very much doubt it though if Comet is anything to go by!

Just heard that Jessop vouchers and returns are not being accepted.

Might end up with a nice cheap prime lens! They are only £100 now! Keeping my eyes peeled...

In my opinion don't bother with the Sony.
I bought the Sony DT 50mm f1.8 SAM for £130 brand new from Jessops. They were useless in store, took ages to find a Sony camera with battery I could try it on.
It's a decent enough lens, but if you want a 50mm prime, I would go for an older Minolta 50mm f1.7.
My Sony got sand in it and the AF jammed, so I sold it on ebay as broken and bought the Minolta AF 50mm f1.7 RS (later "re-styled") version. Love it, colours are nicer, smother bokeh, better build quality, built-in lens hood.
Here's one of the non-RS lenses £65 Buy It Now

As for Jessops, it's not surpising really. They're not great for photographic and camera knowledge when you go in-store and their prices aren't good enough to compare with other/online retailers.
There are other retailers who have better prices or better knowledge and customer service.

Funny you should say that, been watching a load on eBay, but more so the Rokkors. Apparantly if you us an MD/MC to MA adapter with glass £20, then they all fit and work, just not the AF (which I'm not bothered about.) They are going on ebay for £5+ and the quality is amazing!

Apparently you have to adjust the aperture on the lens on some but that doesn't bother me as I will only use it wide open anyway!

I've toyed with the idea of a Rokkor on an adaptor, but since I already have a 50mm f1.7, I would be looking at some of the f1.4 (or f1.2) glass, which isn't so cheap.
Yeah, with manual lens and an adaptor you run in full manual, set aperture on the lens then adjust shutter speed to suit.
Be sure to get an adaptor with a chip in for focus confirmation, it also tells the camera that there's a lens attached.

Minolta glass (old AF lenses or older Rokkor) is generally considered to be very good and gives nicer colours than Sony, which is certainly my experience.

Aaaanny way, slight digression from the Jessops thread.

Haha, cheers, I will be making a collection of older glass I can see! Better than paying £100's for lower quality newer stuff!

It's only when you get into the expensive Sony lenses is it really worth it, but even a Jessops closing down sale isn't going to make that cheap.

My glass was cheap but older and still decent.

I used to go to school with Paul Jessop, Always envious when his Mum dropped him off at the school gates in a brand new White Porsche Carrera, registered JES 50P
Iirc, the family sold the business some years ago for well over ONE HUNDRED MILLION POUNDS!

Shame its gone, but in the current climate, along with other high street brands, it stood no chance against the Internet, and mobile phones
